Scribendi is a reputable proofreading and editing agency. It can assist you with any type of document, no matter whether it is a school assignment, business plan, or a book. The cost of this service is quite high, but that’s not the worst thing. For some reason, the company prefers not to mention its revision and refund policies on the website, and that’s no wonder. There is only 1 free revision, while a money-back guarantee seems not to exist at all.  So, paying the money to this company, you are risking getting a mediocre quality of editing without a chance to get your money back.

Service Review

When I visited Scribendi for the first time, I decided that it was just another writing agency that pretends to provide editing and proofreading help, but in fact, writes papers from scratch like many other companies.

Nevertheless, it turned out that Scribendi had only editing and proofreading assistance and nothing else. I read Scribendi glassdoor reviews, but even there its former employees, even those who were really pissed off, didn't say a word that this company provided some other services besides proofreading.  

The company has been in operation since 1997, and probably that’s the reason why it is considered to be the leader in the market. It has over 400 experts around the globe, and they all have to be native English speakers with some Master’s and even PhD degrees.

Is this company as good as most people think it is? I decided to check it myself and wrote down everything that I have found out in this Scribendi review. 

Pros and Cons

Online reputation

To learn more about the Scribendi reputation online, I started with Scribendi Reddit comments. The customers who used the service of this company were not complaining about poor quality. They were somewhat concerned with the anonymity of the editors to whom the assignment can be randomly assigned. The lack of communication with an editor also disturbed them a lot.  

On TrustPilot, I didn’t find a lot of Scribendi reviews, and that was a big surprise to me since the company is pretty old. Nevertheless, the general rating was high despite a few bad comments which rather concern a customer service than the quality itself. 

Guarantees

To say that Scribendi has a tricky refund policy and guarantees is to say nothing. First, you will not find any mention of refunds or revisions on this site. Even in terms of use, I could find nothing, so I decided to address this issue to customer support.

The answer stunned me. He said that they currently did not have this information on the website. What? Really? The company that has been working over 20 years still doesn’t have such an important piece of information on the site? Why? When I continued to overwhelm the agent with questions, he gave up and showed their cards.

After you get an edited paper, you may request a revision but only once. Refund policy is not envisaged. The best that they can do with a document that you don’t like is to direct your concern to the Quality Assurance Department and wait for their verdict.

But even then, nobody guarantees to return your money, they just say about some “resolution” which can be interpreted in the way it is convenient to the company.  

Types of Services

The Scribendi proofreading services can be subdivided into 6 categories. They provide assistance to students and academics, people for whom English is not a native language, editing and proofreading for business and personal purposes, and they even lend a hand to authors writing their own book, novel, or manuscript. 

Ordering Process

The ordering process consists of two stages. First, you need to select the type of help you need, but that will not affect the final price. No matter whether you choose a Business or Academic editing service, the price will be the same. 

After that, you need to indicate the number of words that your document includes, and you will be shown the cost of the service. You only need to select the required deadline.

By the way, the cost of your document varies depending on a deadline you select, though there is no difference between a 1-week and 12-hour deadlines, which is a bit strange as for me.  

On the second step, you will be required to provide information on your documents and instructions of what is necessary to do. When you finish, proceed to checkout, choose the payment method, and pay for the service.  

Prices and Fees

The minimum cost of any service for just 1 page or 275 words is $13.91. I’d consider this price as quite reasonable if it referred to a writing service, but paying so much for editing, I believe, is a robbery, especially if you offer only 1 revision and no refund option. 

I was hoping that maybe there was a Scribendi discount code, but they probably forgot to mention it just like they forgot to post information about revisions and refunds. Wait, no, I was wrong. Scribendi simply offers no discounts to its clients. 

Paper Quality

I asked them to edit my document of 1100 words and paid almost 40 dollars for it. I got the proofread assignment in two days, and I didn’t notice anything wrong about it at first. But then I accidentally checked the number of words, and it turned out that my assignment had only 743 words.

I wrote to the customer support agent, and he said that those sentences didn’t seem good to the editor, so he just eliminated them. I asked for a revision and insisted on returning the amount of words that my document had initially. A day later, I received my paper, and that time it had 937 words.

The editor left a comment that it was the best he could do, though I still couldn’t understand why hadn’t he just corrected the wrong sentences instead of deleting them.

I didn’t have a right for one more free revision, and the only thing I could do was to place an order again. Maybe, that’s the purpose of Scribendi - to leave customers unsatisfied so that they order again and again. 

Customer Support

Unlike the service itself with skeletons in its closet, the customer support agent was honest. And when I insisted on answering me directly, he gave me a short response. The guys who work in this department know how to assist customers, and I can say nothing bad about them. 

Offers and Extra Services

The only extra service that I found was an option to select an editor with whom you worked the previous time. That’s a useful feature for returning clients, especially if you were lucky to find a good editor who was attentive to your requirements.
